![]() The author stresses the need for a deconstruction and reconceptualization of the existing theoretical frameworks of feminist studies that is inclusive of Black Feminist thought. Collins suggests that it is because of this advantage that African American women develop a distinct perspective of the world that allows them to clearly view the contradictions that plague our society, especially in the university setting. She discusses the epistemic advantage obtained through the experiences of Black women in the United States in which she refers to as the outsider-within perspective. Collins provides a detailed account of the origins and development of Black Feminist thought and its’ lack of consideration within higher education and general daily discourse.
